Labor Day….its SUPPOSED to be about workers – but Eric Cantor hasn’t been notified…

September 15, 2012

Eric Cantor’s gaffe on Labor Day  showed his true disdain for American labor when hetweeted…

Today, we celebrate those who have taken a risk, worked hard, built a business and earned their own success.

Huh??? – Labor Day is supposed to be about employees not employers!

Draft Elizabeth Warren for President in 2012…..

I have long been an Obama apologist  – after all we have an entrenched “tea party”  of freshman congressmen along with massively corrupt DC infrastructure thanks to unlimited campaign funds from  big business.   Obama entered office at the worst possible time.  There is a  common saying which is actually a curse: “May you live in interesting times.”  A worse curse might will be “May you win high office in interesting times.”   Politics – after all – is the art of the possible.  Those who dig in and won’t budge – in the end won’t last.

However, the president’s performance this week tells me that he may not have what it takes to govern in this environment.  He is first and foremost a constitutional lawyer and a scholar.  Nothing wrong with that.  I would rather have a scholar than a cowboy like Bush as POTUS in such a challenging environment.

Apparently everyone likes the the new CFPB  (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau)  except the big banks and some members of Congress.  A certain contingency of the Republican party has had the long knives out for Elizabeth Warren for a long time.  Accusing the agency of having “unprecedented power” and of “over reaching”.  Oh horrors – someone might be pushing back to protect the consumer!  That can’t be allowed.

According to the New York Times headline “Decorum Breaks Down at House Hearing on Consumer Finance Agency”

Patrick McHenry Leads the attack on Warren and the CFPB:

Elizabeth Warren’s Cautionary Tale: The trials and tribulations of CFPB

May 11, 2011

The audacity of advocating for Main Street  America…

Elizabeth Warren – Barack Obama’s special adviser to the CFPB (the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau)  was on Jon Stewart a couple of weeks ago discussing the trials and tribulations facing the nascent bureau.  It’s not as though other newly formed government agencies don’t have their problems or issues.  But this particular bureau has the nerve to actually want to protect the average American.  God forbid that should ever happen.  Jon Stewart of The Daily Show drove home the point. “It’s a bureau looking to protect consumers from corporate malfeasance. Obviously there is massive Congressional resistance to it.”

The Long Knives are already out for Elizabeth Warren & the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)

It didn’t take long – not that I expected it to. Once the tea party and the republicans with their deregulatory, free-markets fix everything zeal won big in the mid-term election – they took aim at anything and everything that smacks of “unnecessary” constraint on a business recovery.   So Elizabeth Warren and  the newly formed CFPB was certain to end up in the cross-hairs almost immediately.

The Banking Fiasco & Elizabeth Warren:

After the banking fiasco of 2008 – you know – that little crisis that sent the American and world economies to the edge of a new Great Depression – everyone was hoping that business as usual in D.C. would change.   I know it was rank hubris – or perhaps just  faint hope springing eternal – for the American public to actually believe  that they might start to matter.  Nevertheless – miracle of miracles the public did make one big score.  The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was born and the President assigned Elizabeth Warren to the task of setting it up.
